July 27. I ordered merienda fare for the lab folks. They bought 2 homemade yummy cakes - tiramisu and fruit cake. The cakes were great! I got the baker's contact info to use for future personal events :) They also gifted me with a scented candle and two soaps, and Mi Mi made me a bouquet of flowers. Office birthday celebrations are not a norm here, people are always just quiet about their birthdays which is boring and sad haha

Candlelit dinner with Ravi at the Suffolk House. Ravi ordered the lamb, I got the steak instead of my usual safe choices of fish or chicken. And boy was I glad I did. It was the best steak I (and Ravi when he took a few bites) have ever tasted here in Penang! The best gift of course came from him...a birthday poem.

Ravi for Marz, for your birthday
With college friends (Nitz and Amarie)
We started with the local kopitiam breakfast of soft boiled eggs and butter toast, which was good as always. I took them to the Queensbay bayfront to get a view of the Penang bridges then we headed to the two Buddhist temples. It was a quick meet up as they had other places to visit and we couldn't join them anymore. Ravi needs the van to pick up Reena in the afternoon.
With the family
It was a simple shabu shabu dinner at Lollipot. The place was packed; we have to wait a while as we didn't have any reservations. Food was good and fresh; service was good enough. Everyone enjoyed the night so all's well. I cut my birthday cake with Reena and Sarah when we reached home.
