Date night with Ravi last Friday |
Last week, our date night was moved from Monday to Friday. For a change, we tried somewhere new and ended up at Patio Bar de Tapas at Georgetown. Patio Bar de Tapas is one of a couple of restaurants that serves Spanish food in Penang island. We have yet to try the other one, El Faros Tapas Bar, which I hear is quite good too.
The place is a good find. Patio Bar de Tapas is a small cozy bar/restaurant with a roofless courtyard serving a good variety of drinks and great tapas. We ordered 3 dishes from their tapas list and we loved it! Okay, I loved it as I ate most of it haha Also, thumbs up on their staff service - friendly, non-obtrusive and always on the lookout if Ravi needed more ice for his whisky or a change of his ash tray.
We arrived quite early on a Friday night. The place got very crowded and loud quickly as the night wore on. We'll probably try out the place again midweek when it has lesser crowd. Older age means preferring a quieter venue to enjoy food and drinks!

Patio Bar de Tapas' courtyard before the Friday crowd surged in. They have a retractable roof in case it rains. |
|
Their classic mojito, which comes in a big, tall glass, can be improved on with more rum and less ice. My other drink later in the night, Long Island Tea, was done much better. Pardon the selfie :) |
|
I loved the half mozarella balls on their bruschetta. |
|
They have a different take on calamares. Theirs is pork stuffed squids with squid ink compote. Very tasty! |
|
Esperanza's Favorite is a baked dish of chorizo, tomato, manchengo and egg. It came with several slices of french bread. It was a bit salty on its own but tastes perfectly fine when spread on top of the bread. |

The younger crowd came in and the place was jam packed! Pardon the poor night shot of the Iphone. |
